There's a new bill in the state
legislature that would halt cigarettes sales in Georgia
as they exist presently. It’s not a matter of curbing
heart or lung disease, it’s about fire safety. The bill
would allow only one type of cigarettes to be sold --
those that are fire-safe.

Bloomberg, Gov. George E. Pataki on Tuesday proposed
increasing New York City's share of the governor's new
cigarettes tax plan by 50 cents a pack, which would
raise the total tax on cigarettes sold in the city to
$3.50 from $3. |

| THE Scottish Executive has been
challenged to match English plans to increase the age at
which people can buy cigarettes to 18. The Department of
Health yesterday confirmed that ministers plan to take
powers to set the minimum age for smoking cigarettes in
England. The department promised "swift action" to raise
the age limit south of the Border. |

| WINDSOR, ON, Jan. 27 /CNW/ - Earlier
today, Windsor, ON, RCMP announced a significant seizure
of illegal cigarettes resulting from the January 25,
2006 execution of four search warrants by its Customs
and Excise section at businesses in the City of Windsor.
The five-month investigation, which was assisted by the
Ministry of Finance, Health Canada and Canada Border
Services Agency, originated as a result of tips from the
public and complaints from legitimate business owners.
Charges were laid against six people in connection with
the sale and distribution of unstamped tobacco products,
namely DK, Putters and Sagos, and loose cigarettes being
sold in plastic baggies. |
